Argentina Wine Masterclass for WSET Diploma candidates

Argentina Wines Masterclass – World Tour, edition Japan

Join us for the Argentina Wines Masterclass – World Tour (Tokyo Edition), an exclusive session that dives deep into the complexity and diversity of Argentine wine. Tailored for WSET Diploma candidates and advanced wine professionals, this masterclass forms part of an international tour that has already captivated audiences in Austria and Barcelona — now arriving in Japan.

We will:

  • Trace the historical evolution of Argentine wine, from European immigration and the rise of Malbec to today’s cutting-edge viticulture and export trends.
  • Analyze key regions and sub-regions, including Mendoza (with focus on Uco Valley and its altitude-driven expressions), Salta (extreme viticulture at 3,000m), Patagonia (cool-climate elegance), and other emerging areas. Deep dive into terroir influences: altitude, diurnal range, soils (alluvial, calcareous), irrigation from the Andes, and how these factors shape acidity, tannin structure, and aromatic complexity.
  • Explore iconic grape varieties:
・Malbec: stylistic diversity from high-altitude freshness to bold Luján de Cuyo classics.
・Torrontés: Argentina’s signature white, aromatic profile and key DOC Cafayate.
・The rise of Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, criollas, and blends.
  • Modern winemaking trends: use of concrete eggs, amphorae, minimal intervention, oak evolution, and the pursuit of elegance and balance over extraction.
  • Market positioning and global relevance: Argentina’s role in premium wine and sustainability efforts.
  • Dry tasting focus: comparative analysis to train your palate on altitude impact, regional typicity, and stylistic nuances with dry notes.
  • Exam strategies for WSET Diploma: practical tips for approaching blind tastings and theory questions on Argentina, how to connect vineyard and winery decisions with wine style and quality.

It’s a masterclass designed to elevate your technical knowledge and confidence for advanced-level assessments, while deepening your appreciation of Argentina’s dynamic wine culture.
